Here is a picture a 1936 Mexican Mauser in .243 Winchester. The diameter of the barrel and re-shape receiver ring are around 1.1275" I was wondering if this safe to shoot?

Measure up a military M-98...pretty skimpy, isn't it? 243 Win operates at pretty fancy pressures...I agree with Mike...what a waste! So many nice actions are thoroughly FUBAR'd by thoroughly FUBAR'd people

Thanks for the info Mike and Duane. I knew what the answer going to be. I guess we pay for our education! I bought this rifle about ten years ago at the beginning of my learning process of Mauser's. Knowing what I have learned on this forum I would have never bought it.

I have seen several Mexican action's that have had severe pitting in the area that was removed on this action so I guess it was just an amateur attempt at salvage an action.
