I thought the Germans made quite a few different actions than the 98. Could be wrong. Rich, you have 13xxx posts. Thought you knew better. Where are the pictures? Just giving you a rough time. I have a menopausal client giving me the shakes and needed an outlet. You are it.

Does this bottom metal appear to fit a Mauser of some sort?

I seems to fit a couple, I have an opportunity to pick up a minty VZ-24, but have not had it in my grubby mitts just yet. Next week.

I bought a very nice German Sporter-type rough inletted stock awhile back here for cheap. Schnabel fore end, and paneled on each side. The bottom sheet metal seems to almost fit. When the action gets here, I will haul it all off to my gunsmith. The stock is cut for a crescent butt plate, and I scored one from a friend who got it from Brownells fifteen years ago. The crescent, with the tear drop cut out at the top of the butt plate, like OM 70's/Neidners. This friend got my lunch money for two months, he had a new in the bag cartridge trap that I think will hold four rounds. It is just going to be a nifty plains game rifle, and the plan is to do it in the sketches in the Wildcat Forum as the .265 H&H. This will take the 240 Wbee, roughly a 240-06 with a belt. Imagine that Wbee case reverse engineered to copy the profile of the 300 H&H.
I should be close to the 6.5-284 or 6.5-06 in performance.

Another fun way to stimulate my gunsmith's economy.

Sounds like nice finds all around and especially the cartridge trap. Also, I enjoy anything H&H. I have a gunsmith friend close by who has many patterns for duplicating the Germanic style stocks fitting many actions. Just food for thought.

BTW, my client is better this afternoon. I am her consultant for a full blown home remodel. Her husband spent the last 8 weeks - yes, 8 - re-wiring their home. Electrical inspection on Tuesday was not pretty. He made no calls to me in those 8 weeks. We now have an electrician ripping out nearly half of his wiring job. She is furious enough to leave for British Columbia next week and will not return until the remodel is finished. This is fun, and off topic. I expect to get whacked by Jeff.

Sheet metal box and if the DSTs are fitted directly into the bottom metal it's likely a 21H Brno. If the DSTs are a separate unit - some other Mauser. FWIW --- John303.

sounds like a midway fajen stock .. i might have a buttplate in the shop for one
