<Zeke>M99 Action Question
Hello All
I have a M99 Savage SN#582949, Cal .300 Savage.
I am told that sometime around 1954 Savage enlarged the action of the M99 about .015 to accomodate the .308 Winchester.
Did Savage do this modification to all M99's?
If so, how can I tell if my rifle has the larger action.
Thanks

Enlarged where? If you can give me a point of reference, I can measure my .308, relay the information to you, and you can check your rifle at the same point. Or, you can wait until somebody who knows the answer responds to your post.
Good shooting.

<Zeke>I believe that the M99 action was lengthened to accomodate the longer .308 Winchester round.
What I don't know is, did Savage lengthen the action of their ALL their M99's or just the .308 and .243 models.
All I know about my rifle is that it was made after 1951.

<Zeke>GSF1200,
Not trying to re-chamber, would like to seat the bullets out a bit farther if possible.

sxr6Feed a 308 in your mag & see if it cycles as far as the chamber!! If it does your good to go. If you seat your bullets out on your 300 make sure your not running the bullets into the lands or your pressures will RISE!!!!
