Can a 7x61 S&H be rechambered to 7mm Rem Mag or to 7mm Weatherby Mag? I don't handload any more. The rifle is a Schultz & Larsen M68DL. Of course I first will check magazine length and functioning, the question in my mind is whether the chamber will clean up.

Why? Norma has ammo for it upon request, I think it's loaded with 160 grains partition. There are still cases for it. It's a classic cartridge that deserves a better destiny, bring out the reloading stuff
Buz Huntington makes trim die for it, soo you can easily convert a 7mm rem case.

If a recambering is a must, then I recommend 7mm wby. A much better neck lenght than the 7mm rem.

Cheers

Several people have said the 7X61 is a vailable from Norma. I was wondering where you see or find it. I look on Norma's site and neither ammo or brass is listed. Is special order?

I load for a friend who has a 7X61. The last time we needed brass we formed it. Since he only shoots a box or two a year he will be fine for a couple more years. LOL But, it would be nice to have the right headstamp.

Gentlemen

I know people who have rifles in this caliber. They have contacted Norma and the problems have been solved.

Yes the 7x61 can easily be opened up to 7mm Rem Mag. Just rechamber. No other work is necessary. (I prefer the 7x61, but ammo is expensive and hard to get if you don't load your own)

Gents, thanks for the replies. Of course the 7x61 is an excellent cartridge but I do not handload any more - I get bored which is dangerous - and both the Rem and Wby mags offer many more factory loads, the Rem being the most versatile and widespread. The Wby is bit more powerful but all three are basically about the same, I think I will go with the Rem.
