browningguyThe latest addition - 6x45
Well I ordered this back when we were having the stock cutting party for Mike D's wood. It took them a while to get the barrel in but only a week to finish after it arrived. Heavy Hart 20" barrel, threaded with flash hider in 6x45 (6-223, mid-length gas system with rifle length free float aluminum handguard, flat top upper. We just function checked it today so I'll load up a few rounds and hopefully get to the range in the next week or so. Marty at Tepu Jutso put it all together for me.

fla3006I've been intrigued with the 6x45, considered building a Sako or Mini Mauser. What twist, bullet weight, expected velocity, etc.?

Nice rifle! Everyone needs a black rifle in their collection!!!! One of my ole work buddies convinced me I should build one of my own. I wasn't too impressed with the black guns until I started shooting them. Your 6x45 sould be a tack driver.

I have one on a mini-mauser....love it.....
Loading data from Hodgdon's in their hard cover book...20" barrel is fitting.
I used a 1-14" twist.....wouldn't do that again.....go with 1-12 or 10"
I've taken several deer with the Hornady 70 Grain bullets.....and yes...the SX. This is a serious hunting round for 100 pound game and under.

Will this handle 87 grainers accurately with faster twist?

browningguyIf I recall this is about a 1:12 twist, in the 6x45 you really want to stick with the 80 gr. bullets from what everyone tells me, although through a bolt action you might fit the 87 gr. bulelts ok. Anything heavier and you just lose too much velocity, in the AR I am also limited in OAL. I'm using the Sierra 80.gr. SSP (Single shot pistol) bullet to work up loads, it's the shortest 80 gr. bullet out there and seems to function perfectly through the AR mags. I have compressed loads with 26 gr. of RL15, I'll try the H322 later but I didn't have any on the shelf.'m expecting around 2600-2700 FPS with this load and will try to run it over the chrony in the next week.
