I just bought a Savage 10 to use as a switch barrel rifle--I have a 22-250AI standard contour barrel and may want to add a heavy bull to the mix later. I need to replace the stock and was looking at the B&C line. The DuraMaxx are a high end injection molded affair while the Carbelite are hand laid without pillars. The goal of this project is accuracy and stock stability, not weight savings. I know the Duramaxx comes inletted for a heavy barrel but I could inlet the Carbelite for a heavy contour if necessary. What are the realtive pros and cons of each stock? Price is quite close already. Thanks for the info guys. Jay Kolbe

I've never tried a DuraMaxx but all of the Carbelite stocks I have used were soft in the action screw area. This becomes more of a problem the bigger the caliber (like 8 Mag, 375, etc) and the more often you plan to remove the action from the stock. Constant battering and/or retightening of the action screws crushes the foam filler little by little, causing a shifting point of aim. Finally the screws just won't stay torqued. With standard calibers, I don't think this happens if the actions are put in and left alone. Pillars solve the problem, or go one step up to a Medalist. "Experience" is the only class you take where the exam comes before the lesson.

Sounds like the duramaxx is more appropriate here for several reasons. I really appreciate the input. Jay Kolbe
