I will be on the road tomorrow heading from Minneapolis to Aurora, IL, and was wondering if there are any good gunshops to see along the way. Preferrably some that carry collectable stuff, especially Winchesters. I'll be driving through towns of Eau Claire, Madison, Rockford, etc. Thanks.

Rusk gunshop in Madison usually has something high end and or collectable. They are located on Watts Rd. on the west side of Madison about 15-20 mins. off the interstate.

Prewar 70:

Rusk in Madison is good shop. There is also a Gander Mountain on the north side of Madison and another GM in Janesville.

There is GAT guns in Dundee and Jr's Shooting Sports in Aurora west of Fox Valley Mall. There is a Gander Mountain in Geneva as well. These are all western suburbs and along your general route.

Prewar 70,

If you could go a little off your route, the Appleton branch of Scheels at the Fox River Mall has a huge selection of fine guns including a premium selection of rare Winchester, Browning and other old rifles in mint shape. Scheels' prices are high, though, but their selection is always worth looking at. I haven't been to the Eau Claire Scheels and now I have one more shop to visit sometime in the future. Big Grin

If you want to buy any kind of ammunition or if you are interested in military surplus rifles, then the various Fleet Farm stores in Wisconsin have excellent prices as well as good selections from time to time. Surprisingly for budget stores, Fleet Farm offer excellent service and the staff are always well trained and polite compared to Wal Mart.

Best wishes and good hunting!

The Eau Claire Scheels is only about a quarter mile off of 94. Hwy 53 exit which is the last one going east if I remember right. It is in Oakwood mall. They have collectible guns. The Gander there ain't much. Just get off on 53 and look for the Golf road exit off of 53 and take a left at the lite. You'll see the mall on the west side of 53 with Scheels at the far end. I buy lots of guns and other stuff there. If you watch, they take the scopes off their display guns and then sell them off as used, usually 50 to 100 off and they leave the Leupold mounts on.I just picked up a BAR longtrac in 300 winnie for 650 which is 75 below dealer cost. A while back I got a Browning SS in 7mm wsm for 499.99

Thx guys for all the suggestions. I will definitely be stopping at Scheels in Eau Claire and Rusks in Madison and anything else I can find along the way! Should make the trip more enjoyable and give me a few things to look forward to in the morning.

For the love of pete don't say anything about the Packers. They get a little touchy about that when they're 0-4.

Update on Packers. 1-4 after the spanking they gave the Saints. Fans can come in off of the roof now.
