I finally found an old interarms mark x mini mauser in .223 at a decent price. This gun seems to have been shot little if at all and the action binds slightly. Whats the best way to smooth it up?

Also the trigger is fully adjustable, but I don't know what the different screws do. Any advice on how to set the trigger down around 3lbs would be appreciated.

On this one, I spent a lot of time polishing the bolt guide and the rails, which were rough. Still binds a little and is tight.



Here's another pic. It's a 223, magazine slimmed down by 1/4" (still holds 5 rounds), reshaped/recheckered factory stock , ebony tip, shop made sights, grip cap, barrel band & scope bases, Talley rings, rust blue, factory barrel (5/8" groups). I did some of the work, my friend and part-time gunsmith did most of the work (the hard parts).

Thanks guys. GSP how did you polish the action. Did you use some kind of tools or just put some polishing compound on it and work the action a couple thousand times?

Mostly by hand and a flex shaft with white felt pads and polishing compound. And a lot of working the bolt a couple thousand times

If your not going to reblue. I would polish the cam notch on the bolt and the cocking piece were they touch. The race ways and lugs would help also. Of course most metal to metal could use polishing. The threads on the bolt shroud and inside the bolt could use some cleaning up for smoother rotation.

GSP. When you say flexshaft are you talking about a dremel type tool. I've got one of those .

Here's the rifle in the stock. Not bad for $320 I think.

The one I use has a 1/4 horse motor like a Foredom, but the dremel will work.
I would try lapping coumpond first and work it a few times.
A dremel can be your friend or enemy.

GSP I've been working the action with some JB bore paste and it really has smoothed it up pretty good. Not perfect yet but good enough. Also I was able to adjust the trigger pretty nice.

Maybe someday I'll have it fixed up real nice like FLA30.06's rifle, but for now I plan on just shooting it a bunch.
