I'm looking to build three rifles that are basically the same. I'm looking to build a .257bob, a 35whelen, and a 375H&H. I'm thinking springfield,pre64's, and mausers.

Out of these three; wich would you prefer and why .I have all three and have no bias towards any of them. I'd just like to hear what you guys think.

thanks

Turfman,

Winchester Model 70 Pre 64

I considered it the utmost refinement of the Mauser action, and the first choice of many wanting custom rifles.

Success,
Roland

Exactly, the thing that makes the M-70 great is the fact that its a Mauser replica.

If one of your Mauser actions is a magnum length then there are enough aftermarket parts available to make them (Mausers) every bit the equal of an M-70 and there is no action better suited for a 257 Bob.

Personally I agree with the mixed bag suggestion, 257 mauser, 35 Springfield and 370 M-70. Very natural chamberings for those actions.

I guess it just depends on what you want. Never heard of a 375 H&H from a Springfield though.

I have bought allot of guns just to take them appart.

The 98 Mauser is my favorite.
I have not figured out what all the machining is for, but the the Win70 has fewer machining steps.

Agree that the pre64 M70 is the clear choice if you want all three the same, otherwise I agree that .257 Mauser, .35 1903 and .375M70 would pretty neat. As to M70 gas handling, it is possible to put a flange on the front end of the bolt sleeve, like a Mauser, J.K. Cloward did this on an M70 custom for me a few years ago.
