I foolishly purchased Brownells adjustable pillar bedding kit assuming it would be the ticket for my CZ 550. They are entirely too large for the stock and so they will go in my 6mm Remington instead. I really would like to get the CZ pillared and wondered if there is a kit available or if I would be better off buying aluminium rod or threaded steel rod from the hardware store then drilling and cutting it to size? My rifle is chambered for 6.5x55 so I don't need bombproof, just rigid. Thanks.

I have a CZ500 in the exact caliber you have why to you wan to pillar bed it? Mine shoots well, doesn't need any fixes. If I was getting picky I would just glass bed it, but mine is really shooting so well its not going to gain me a whole lot. Kind of one of those things if it isn't broke don't fix it.

I was going to glass bed it, but hadn't pillar bedded a rifle before so I thought it might be a fun project. I also was under the impression that pillar bedding would alleviate change of zero in wood stocks due to temperature/humidity changes. My rifle shoots ok, though I may be spoiled by heavy barrel varminters. My best group with this rifle was .635"CTC for 5 shots. From the groups I've been getting it seems to have a bit of wiggle in the factory bedding. When I got the rifle the barrel was contacting the stock along one side, and I had to channel it out a bit. Also the bolt handle was hitting the stock before it closed completely so I think I got a dud in terms of factory inletting.

My CZ 550 American Safari in 375 H&H fit poorly into the factory stock. Accuracy got better when I did some stock fitting work and then glass bedded it. One of the problems was the same as yours -- the bolt handle hit the stock. Other than that I think the rifle is a good deal for the money.
