Gentlemen,

I need a piece of mild steel, tool steel or cro-mo steel 1.00" x 2" x 8" long. This can be scrap, except for the thickness the other dimensions are approximate. I will gladly pay for the piece and postage to get it here.

I would try to order within the state but the shops in Anchorage simply tell me it isn't worth their time to send me something like this and there isn't anything locally this thick. One of the joys of living in the Bush.

If you can help me out I would appreciate it. Email me offline please.

Roger,
If you are looking for mild steel, one of the shops should have a piece of 1x2 keystock around. Maybe even 3/4 x2. Dimensions on keystock are pretty good. Regards, Bill

Roger,
In my next life I'm going to be a machinist, so I'm preparing now at the local community college. I would be happy to make a slab of steel for you. Send me dimensions and tolerances, if you give me an idea of what you will be using it for we can determine what material to use.

A piece that big might fit in a priority flat rate envelope. It's $3.85 and would sure cut down on shipping cost. I sent several ingots of WW and Lino to a guy in AK and used it with good success.

If you can't find anything, email me, I have a steel place about 2 min from my house.

Gentlemen,

Thank you for the outpouring of suggestions and offers of help, true gentlemen all.

I have bookmarked MSC, I need to stay away from a place like that though...a candystore.

Bill, I never thought of keystock!

I have bookmarked online metals too.

The knife place was very expensive, but interesting.

I belive I have something going with a gentleman who is offering to machine this piece as a class project, we will see how it works out. I was probably headed towards buying a die grinder to complete the thing. I should get one anyway. I need to get working on the triggerguard frame now... [Smile]

Roger,

I just ran across this, If the other guy can't fix you up, let me know. I am a machinist/toolmaker, I have lots of scrap laying around.
