Rather than shaving from the front and rear of the receiver / magazine box, if only brought to the rear what would be the OAL one could get in a Mauser 98?

Thats a good question, it would depend on which Receiver

A std Militarty M98 in 8x57 length
A Yugo Intermediate in 8x57 lenth
A FN/Zastava commerical in 30-06 length
