Based on a few comments here I decided to give them a try. I wanted a thinner barrel for a .338-06 and they offered me a contour exactly as I wanted with the barrel thickness at .120 at the muzzle.

It just arrived and it's exactly as I requested and the exterior finish is spectacular.....it won't need more than a tad of crocus cloth prior to bluing!

The interior is even shinier than the Shilens I have been buying and that's saying something....

Make no mistake about it the proof of the barrel is in the shooting and we're a ways off from that but if first impressions mean anything.....they pass with flying colors!

The barrel blank was also reasonably priced and that's in the ballpark with Shilen and Douglas or a few bucks more.....

I'm impressed.......so far!

Keep us posted on how well it shoots. I have used several of their barrels with good success (accuracy).

The last one I saw shoot was owned by a realllllly ancient old guy(probably half Bartsche's age shocker) and it was shooting nothing but 1-hole 5-shot groups with him yanking the trigger.

It was a 7mm on a 280Rem Case, but he had them do something to the Chamber shape that was not routine. So they stamped the barrel 7mm(and his last name). Sure was a shooter.

The one my Son-in-Law put on his 7 mag. is a sure enough shooter. Had to send it back on a contour misunderstanding, but it sure was worth it.

Only one i bought and put money in Harry's hand was a POS. After a few months of working up loads. Contacted Harry he refused to back up his product. Lesson learned the hard way at a 300 dollar cost to me. I hope you fair better.

McGowan Precision Barrels is pretty much a different operation than what Harry McGowan ran in St Anne, Ill.

I've had rifle barrels from both and Harry was first rate in my dealing with him.

I just sent mine back to them the gunsmith threaded and chambered it and noticed it had a good wobble to it like a drunk sailor. It was a 338 barrel # 4 contur. I contacted McGowen said send it back so they can take a look at it. I hope they give me a new one.. In the mean time I bought a douglas barrel to finish the gun.

Okay pulled my email up on this the Barrel has a visible amout of runout when it is centered on the lathe, which leads to being off center I guess. Either way the barrel is garbage and I hoep they make it right if not oh well.
