I am wanting to put an Edge stock I have on a 338 Win Mag. The company says the stock will handle 300 Mag recoil. Do you think the 338 Win mag would decrease the reliability of the stock? Is the recoil any differant on say a 300 Weatherby and a 338 Win mag. I could also have the stock bedded. It's always so quiet when the goldfish die.(Bror Blixen) DRSS Merkel 470 NE

Recoil for a 9 pound rifle in 300 Weatherby: 29.5 ft/lbs with 180gr at 3200fps, 85 grains Rel 22. Recoil for a 9 pound rifle in 338 Win Mag: 30.2 ft/lbs with 225gr at 2800fps, 74 grains Rel 19. I would say that they are pretty equivalent. The above loads are from a reloading manual, so they are close, but YMMV. Jeremy

25.62 ft/lbs of recoil in a 9 pound rifle. 180gr bullet at 3050fps, 76gr of Rel 22. This is a load that I use in my Ruger with a verified velocity. You can check free recoil at http://www.handloads.com/calc/recoil.asp if you have a load in mind. Jeremy

Thanks for the info. That is less than a 5 ft/lbs spread between the 3 rounds. I can't see that being a huge differance as far as the stock taking the recoil between the 300s and the 338 Win. It's always so quiet when the goldfish die.(Bror Blixen) DRSS Merkel 470 NE
