Does anyone know of a company or a individual with a nice classic 722 stock pattern? What it basically comes down too is I'm too f'n lazy to build my own. Besides that, I've been fishing all summer. And to add to it will be headed to Alaska in Friday with Jim Kobe for more fishing.

Ok I drifted there. But does anyone have a good 722 stock pattern so I can stock my barreled action this winter?

And BTW a 700SA will NOT work. I found that out the hard way. The tang on a 722 is much wider than a 700SA.

Don't know if it will help but I have the knock off from my 721 30-06. I can send it to you to make a pattern or use on an inletter or whatever. I think it's pretty much the same from what I've seen. One caviat is that I want the stock back-it's off a gun I inherited from an old friend and I try to keep things together.

I have a 700BDL stock on my 722 and it went together like it was made for it, with the exception of inletting for the safety and a little around the bolt handle. Used BDL bottom metal, piece of cake.

Jeff, thanks for the offer. The 722 is a short action and the 721 is a long action. So it would not work. But I appreciate your kind offer.

OOPS, should have caught that one. In any event, if you try the 700BDL stock route, I have one I knocked off my 17 Rem. It's in good shape with only a couple honest blems. Put the 700 metal on it and fix as necessary. Let me know.

Beep this is a recording. A 722 fits a 700sa stock, with minor inletting.

The 722 is far from a drop-in fit into a 700 stock. The bottom metal is different, the bolt angle is different, the tang is wider, and the barrel contour is different, most notably the trunion for the rear sight. Also, he may not have BDL bottom metal, which is very expensive these days, and the 722 bottom metal (mag box, too) will not work with the 700 BDL floorplate cutout. A 700 ADL stock will fair no better...

I didn't measure the width of the tang, but with both actions being the same diameter and round I didn't think it would make much difference and it didn't. I used BDL bottom metal.
Not exactly a drop in,but real low on the difficulty scale. It worked for me, and the effort and cost were well worth it, at least to me. Sure made a big change in the looks.

The rear sight trunion on mine had been turned off years ago, so I didn't have to deal with that and I had to inlet for the safety and also a little for the bolt handle. And the barrel contour, while slightly different are pretty darn close.As a plus, this rifle shoots 5 shot groups into one ragged hole, without any rebedding work(new stock was pillar bedded)

Fair enough. I actually love the 721 and 722 actions - I have had and do have many. I have found them to be capable of absolutely top-notch accuracy in a variety of calibers, though most of mine now have long since been rebarreled, some more than once. I actually perfer the bolt handle to that of the 700, the back sweep on the latter just doesn't fit me quite as well.

I like the 721 and 722 as well. And like Jack Belk said, they didn't need much gunsmithing, if any, to build an accurate rifle out of the box.
Any of them I have seen were shooters, out of the box. Rough bores, but shooters just the same.
My cousin bought one in .222, about 1950 for around $50.00, quite a bargain, and i'd like to have a dollar (1950 dollar)for every groundhog that was killed with it.
