I found a sako rifle made on a commercial 98 action. The action has no thumb cut out and no slot for clips. The rifle looked very nice and the stock were classic straight stock with checkpiece. The quality of the walnut was fairly good. The caliber was 8X60S. the rifle looked like a safari style rifle. In general the rifle looked very nice.

Does any one know anything about this model and it's value. Is it a common modell?

I have the option to buy this sweety and would like to know if the price is right

My data shows that the very first Sakos were built on FN commercial actions - and to my thinking, that's about as good as it gets..

I concurr with Tumbleweed! I have one with Monte Carlo Stock in .300 H & H with a Lyman 4 X scope that cloverleafs groups all day long.

I paid $600 USD about 10 years ago for mine; a quick look in the gun list puts similar rifles at around $750 USD.

I am not sure about that particular caliber.

The condition of my Sako was/is excellent. Blue is 99%. Stock shows little use maybe a tiny scratch here and there from use.

I have one that was 300 H&H that I had rechambered to 300 Wby in Anchorage in about 1961.

It was at the time when Sako was discontinuing them, and I had seen an adv in the American Rifleman for about $136. Caribous in Anchorage had two. They let me have one for the price in the Rifleman. NOW WHY DID I NOT BUY BOTH?? Because I am dumb.

Anyway, I liked it better than the Wby rifle. It has a classic stock with good figure. It is accurate, but not quite moa.

Mine has the Weaver 4X with the rangefinder reticle that I put on it when I bought it.
I liked the rangefinder reticle better than any other then or now.
For those not familiar with it, the reticle is a crosshair with a thinner hair 6 moa below the center reticle.

For my rifles, I sight them 3" high at 100 yds. That puts them on about 285, 10" low at 400, and 30 inches low at 500. Therefore the bottom crosshair is on at 500 yards. It is easy to judge the range of an animal when you know the depth of the chest. I still like it better than the mil dot reticles. It is faster, and does what I need as a hunting scope. The size of the animal makes up for the slight innacuracies associated with trajectory and range.

A good friend has two Sako FN's in 270Win. Very nice rifles, extremely accurate, classic Mauser looks. An 8x60S in this rifle is uncommon, at least in the US (although I believe Buffalo Brothers in Tuscon had one for sale recently). Here, an FN Sako in excellent condition should sell for around $600US, although my friend paid $450 for his a couple of years ago.
