SnowwolfeRuger Hawkeye 7mm mag to 458 Win.
Have a chance to pick up a new Hawkeye in 7mm Rem Mag pretty cheap. Really do not have a need for it but was wondering how difficult it would be to convert to 458 Win?
I know it needs a new barrel and possibly the action glassed and stock pinned but was wondering about potenital feeding issues, if any.
Thank you

There is a possibility that the larger diameter bullets and case mouth will cause a problem, but it should be easy to correct(by a knowledgeable smith). The best thing to do is to load it up with a magazine full of 458 and rack them through. Then you will know.
I did the same thing in a Mark X (7mmRM to 458WM). When I checked feeding with the 7mm barrel in place it seemed to feed the 458s better than the 7mm RM that is was designed for.

SnowwolfeThanks guys. Unfortunately the company (Davidsons) that was selling these in stainless left handed for $489 sold out. Bummer, will keep on eye out for another.

ConYou might need a lighter contoured barrel ... from memory the 7mmRemMag is a lighter contour than the 30 or 338 magnums and this is evident in a narrower forend. Again ... from memory.
Metal work wise ... piece of cake.
Cheers...
