Quote: Still scratching my head about the engraving.
Ideas, anybody?
My apologees in advance, but for some reason I look at that rifle and see a Warner Brothers style freight train with a full head of steam..
I guess the Warner Bros version just because it is a bit more "vivid".. No reflection on the rest of the work of corse.
Seriously though, looking at this classic photo on the front of the Midway catalog conjures up a thought. Its a pic of Elmer next to a Cape buff, I dont know much about the history of that particular cartridge, but a tribute to a former PH or the like seems as worthy as a tribute to animals. That particular photo has got them both..

Just came back from a visit to Wisner's, Inc. Picked up the parts for my 505 Gibbs that Jim built. Front sight and wedding band sling swivel. As per usual, the parts fit like a glove. I asked him not to polish or install the parts as I don't want six pounds of barrel attached to the parts as I engrave them. Here's a photo, as is.

Roger, If I may be so bold, but that rifle just screams AFRICA! I would think a scene of a charging elephant on the floorplate would be the perfect scene to embellish this piece with, along with panels on the bolt knob with several of the other Big Five. If that isn't an elephant rifle, nothing on earth is! Of course, the beatiful sights need to be dressed up a bit also, but that is your specialty, I'm guessing. Personally, I think that rifle should be hunted with, and I'm just not into overly-embellished rifles for hunting purposes. However, a few nice scenes would give a nice light, but outstanding, touch to this rifle as it is carried after the Big Five- which is of course what is was designed for! BTW- I love the shape and execution of the stock, especially that Prewar style cheekpiece. Absolutely gorgeous! -Sheister
A picture of any of the big would be ideal on this rifle. I like Lions better than Elephants or Buff. I can't help but think that a lion placed on the floor plate with you ability with detail and shadding would be simply striking.
What ever you go with she sure it a beauty.
Congrats

Fine English scroll on the barrel band & sight, lightly done and for my thoughts, the caliber matches elephant, rhino or buff on the floorplate. Even though I agree that lions are more attractive irrespective of other factors. I goota admit though, if i had your skills I'd be hard pressed from turning it into a Guild class rifle.

I think a big "R" in the middle of the floorplate would be nice, a double entendre of sorts. I've really liked the momograms you've posted. Then again, anything you end up with will lokk great I'm sure.

Maybe it's an Italian thing . . . but on the floorplate I'd do something with Diana wearing only sandals and a quiver drawing on a charging (fill in the blank). Put her favorite satyr behind her in pith helmet (with horn holes) carrying just the sort of thing you're engraving, a big bolt gun as backup(though of course goddesses never need back up). Then you can have the two of them amorously celebrating a great kill on the trigger guard.

Roger, ROFLMAO. I think we best leave the artistic design to you. When you get ready to christen it, I will buy the drinkd and come over and we can fire it and drink a few to Ray. Not a day goes by it seems........

Very nice looking piece there. How about a Cape buffalo head in an oval panel, on the floorplate? I like the scroll idea on the quarter rib, front ramp, etc.
