I had an argument with another shooter about Colt vs S&W revolvers. He told me something I never hear about the old Colt revolvers having poor design because the extractor rod usually bent. My question for professional gunsmiths is: How often you have Colt revolvers with the extractor rod bent after a fall for repairing? I have asked the same question to some gunsmith here and they have never have one bent for falling. A couple of extractor rods was bent by the owner trying to fix another problems. 2 totally different designs. Mind you, of the double action revolvers, Smith and Wesson is my favorite. Of course, I don't fall with mine.  I don't recall in 30 years having to straighten more than a handful of Colt ejector rods. I have straightened and replaced countless S&W extractor rods. In function, the Colt ejector rod spins free of any contact on the end whereas the S&W's is a part of the cylinder latch system which must spin smoothly on it's axis for the gun to cycle without drag. Therefore you will get more complaints from the S&W shooters over a bent rod than the owner of the Colt who wont notice anything equally out of whack with his Colt. _______________________________________________________________________________ This is my rifle, there are many like it but this one is mine. I love S & W revolvers. However, the ejector rod on them is a weak point. I havce had several 357 and 44's (N frames) tie up because the rod loostened while shooting. Colt's on the other hand, do not have the same problem. | |||

If the ejector rod has a groove in the tip it is a left hand thread and will stay put. Good Luck! | |||
