I've been less than impressed with the workmanship of the several gunsmiths I've usedin the Missoula Montana area of late. A general lack of pride in the work that they do and a seeming lack of real interest in art of the craft. I can't believe that this is the case with most smiths here. Can anyone recommend a highly skilled and knowledgeable smith in western Montana? For that matter, nationally if they work commonly by mail. Custom guns, accurizing, tuning, routine stuff. Thanks for your input.

I would second the refrence of David Gentry, Belgrade Mt.
As a matter of fact I was in his shop today to discuss some work on a custom FN I have, I have never seen a dremel tool ever in his shop 'o) I can also tell you he is adding a *new* CNC machine that should be delivered tomorrow.
I would also recommend Jack Belk in Buhl Idaho. Jack was a 2 year term Pres. Of the Custom Gun Makers Guild. Both of these men are honest and *very* compedent in all aspects of firearm customizing and building.
I hope this helps?

What about Kenn Young in Tracey, MT. I haven't used him, but did call to get a quote on some work very nice guy, and people I know that have used him all rave about his work.
Everyday, I read about some little boy being molested or dragged to his death in a carjacking gone bad... or about some little girl being raped and murdered... or some school kids setting a classmate on fire "just for the fun of it"... or read about bridges collapsing and killing people, or planes crashing, or something along these lines.
So... you earned a rare grin with the following.

Loved it. Absolutely loved it. I think you should do it.

Dennis Olsen in Plains is still in operation, as is John King, at Kila, Montana. For muzzleloading gun smiths, Tim Mitchell, Marion, Larry Merical, also Marion for engraving, or Franz Martel at the same location. Monte Mandarino for restoration of high end arms, Kalispell. These cover the best I know in the area.
Hudge That name is David Young, and he has done work for me. He is very good, and a very nice man! One of the things I like the most about him is( besides doing great work) It is done when he tells you it will be done. David will do anything you want. From accurizing to full blow customs from scratch. This guy is dang good. I will also put in my 2 cents for Dave Gentry. Top notch. I haven't used him, but have seen his work. WOW!
