I am trying to replace the front sight bead on a Remington 798. They are not the standard 3/8s Dovetail. They are the smaller ones. I knocked out the sight bead and across the base of the sight bead dovetail it measures 1/4". Can I just purchase a replacement with a white or brass colored one? Any idea where I can purchase one?

It's easier to enlarge the dovetail than to file down the sight. Assuming you don't have a milling machine. Buy a dovetail file from Brownells. It has a safe side that will ride the bottom of the dovetail.

If you screw up the dovetail you live with it.
You can buy another sight. Make a triangle
file (a longer one) into a safe file by grinding
the teeth on one flat. Long even strokes, watching the angle will do it.
Take your time.
Good luck!
