I have a new Remington CDL SF in 300 WSM that I would like accurized. I have heard some real horror stories about some rifles shooting worse than before the work was done. So who does an excellent job in this area for a fair price?
Thanks,
Sam

The big 3 areas addressed when accurizing a rifle include the trigger, the bedding, and in my shop, the crown. Actually, in my shop, the crown is the first thing changed, automatically. If done correctly, neither of these changes will harm accuracy.

If you worked up handloads prior to having any of the above work performed, then the chances are good that the groups will no longer be the same and new loads will need to be developed.

The big problem will likely be the result of the treatment of the barrel. I prefer to free float the barrel as part of the accurizing process. This eliminates the possibility of having ANY uneven pressure problems between the barrel and the forearm. By starting with zero contact, and thus zero pressure on the barrel, you provide a good starting point for which to add pressure if the need arises.

As far as someone to do the work, look for someone who will stand behind their work. Z1R and Toomanytools come to mind... thumb

Uh, I took "in the area" to mean "in the field" of accurizing. Maybe not.

My advice is to have it glass bedded and the barrel floated.....

We don't have many smiths that post here from "Neaw Yoark" or even Eastern US that I know of....

It's not a difficult thing to do and most folks do it themselves. But some would be better off to hire it done....it runs about $80 give or take.

If that don't solve the problem one can look to other means but glass bedding and free floating does the trick most of the time.

PM aspenhill adventures (Ann) who psts on AR as she uses a guy in Vermont for some of her work and it's damn good stuff.

LOL vapodog, I'm far north of NY City, right on the Canadian border, great hunting and fishing up here.

SamC,
I think that you are very smart to be willing to ship your rifle. A lot of people want to stand over the smith's shoulder and drop by at inconvenient times to check on their project. There are several honest qualified smiths on this forum. May be some shaky ones also. Do your homework.
