Met an elderly gentleman at the local gunshop. He had a Mauser that he said that he picked up in North Africa about 1943. I think that it is a carbine as it has a 23-24" barrel and a bent bolt handle. It is all matching numbers. The sling looks original. I borrowed a camera and the photos are terrible. It also has an Erma 22 rimfire insert, magazine assm., and bolt. I haven't learned to post photos yet, but can email them. Trying to help the fellow out.

Butch,

What does he need help with? I am sure there are lots of guys who would help him out by offering $50 for it Wink I am guessing you would really like to help him out and figure what it is truly worth. Do you remember what codes are on the front ring?

The whole package, if an all matching German Mauser in good condition and original, would easily be in the $1000 plus range (if not sportified).

If he is selling and you are buying, ask him to write down the story of how he came by it, including the location, approximate date, his rank / service, etc. - for me, the history is usually worth at least as much as the old gun.

Rusty,
They are posted on the military rifles forum on AR. The only thing that I saw was the CE on the frt. ring. I will try to visit with him tomorrow and take more photos. The Erma 22rf conversion was given to him by his brother. TMG, I will quiz him on the story. He said the battlefield was littered with the rifles.
