I have a rifle that seems to have a weak magazine spring. It is putting less pressure on the front of the cartidge than the back. Is there a place I can get a new/stronger spring for a M70 short action? Thanks.

MikeL, Most magazine springs are designed to have more force at the rear of the follower (cartridge) then the front. This is to enhance feeding. You want the rear of the cartridge to come up sharply so that the bolt has the maximum amount of rim to push against and you do not get 'cartridge override'. The front leafs of the spring should be strong enough to hold the front of the cartridge up in position for feeding. Good luck, Headache

Headache, are you one Shortmags? Thanks for the info. The spring does keep the front up but barely if at all. I think the gun will run a little better if the front of the spring was stronger. I am playing with the shape but haven't gotten it right yet. Anyone know where I can get extra springs?
