Ruger 77/22 K-Hornet Magazine

I picked up a Ruger 77/22 K-Hornet and it seems the previous owner used it as a single shot. I say this because the K-Hornet rounds are very hard to feed into the rotary magazine. I believe I can slightly file the feed lips to make it easier to load, but does the internal follower need opening up also?

I’m new to this rifle and can use any tips you may have for me.

Since the magazine was not designed for the K version, you may be in for an adventure!

I would see if Conn. Precision Chambering is still in business. They specialized in them.

I went through the same thing a long time ago. Bought a K-Hornet in the laminate stocked 77 22H.

Nice rifle, but it never really figured out how to make it feed. I bought a magazine and butchered it. 2nd one I bought I used a little bit less muscle on the file and got it to kind of work. You don't need to do anything to the rotary, just the feed lips.

Your experience may vary.

Buy a CZ in 17 Hornet, you won't be disappointed.

I used a jeweler’s file and opened up the outer lips where the Hornet case is blown out. This allowed the case to snap into the magazine. I then worked on the inner metal surfaces that guide the round out of the rotating follower. This allowed me to load 5 rounds and feed up so the bolt picks them up.
I still need to polish the surfaces to enhance the feeding.

I’m getting close!

Hmmm. Good point. That would be interesting to find out. It may save some work.

I had the same problem. Even with the magazine modified I could only use stubby bullets. My solution was this:

If you're trying to stir up something with religion and politics, maybe you meant to post in here?:

No I didn't. Was sarcastically trying to point out that the bottom magazine in the pic looks like an "abortion." Guess it went over your head.

They are two different part numbers.
I would check with Ruger directly.

That’s what I found also. Been looking for one locally at Bass Pro and Academy. May have to order one.

Hmmm . . . I have a M77/22H which is rechambered to K-Hornet. The factory magazine as it comes only holds three rounds of the fatter stuff, but they feed just fine without modification to the magazine.
