Could a 7600 in .35 Whelen or .30'06 be rebored to 9.3x62? Is the magazine long enough for the heaviest 9.3 bullets?

I to would be interested to hear if this could be done, would make a nice little brush rifle. The 9.3 can be loaded using 06 brass but you lose a little case capacity. So it is kind of in the same family of cartridges.

I have a shooting budy that bought a 7600 and it had been rebored to 35 cal.. There was enough meat in the barrel to to .336 and do a 9.3x62. We tried the 9.3x62 case and ours would feed empties. That doesn't mean much but is a clue to the applicability.

Another thought, what about chambering a Rem 7600 to 411 Hawk? That would be a 4000+ pounds of energy in a pump rifle. sounds like it would be fun to let your friends shoot.



The 7600 is free floated so it has the ability to shoot very well regardless what caliber you choose.

I asked Dick Nickel of Ridgetop to do one in 375/06 for me a long time ago in Hawaii for a friend on a 760 Rem. Dick was kinda skeptical but did it and it worked ok. Feeding was good and there seemed to be no real problems aside from a stout recoil. I was worried the front sight screws might mean cutting the barrel back past the two holes but the bore cleared ok. Your idea should work ok. Good luck on the 7600.

I know of a whole bunch of good shooting & working & feeding 7400�s in 9,3x62, so the 7600 should not be a problem at all.

If you want to reload the cases more than once or twice, do *not* use .30-06 or .35 Whelen brass for forming.
9,3x62 brass is *thicker* at the base, so reformed cases with 06 size heads will fit in the chamber easily, but eventually will splitt after some reloading!

Better buy 9,3x62 cases, properly loaded they last for dozens of loads.

The thing to do here is find out who is serious about this and then go as a group to one of the reborers for price and delivery based on the final group size. I would be interested, too.

I also think a BLR in 9.3x62 would be a hell of a useful hunting weapon to play with.

Now I could go for that LB404, I was out shooting my BLR in 300 Win on Friday. A 9.3 would be an excellent woods gun.

Very interesting comment by Vernon that several 7400s have been made into 9.3x62. The factory made them in .35Wh. The .35Wh 7600 is no longer cataloged but there is an outfit in PA that has ordered them in batches recently, the next is due this summer. I wonder if there would be enough of a market for 9.3s to interest Remington.

I have wanted a "Big bore" 7600 for some time. Browning is now chambering their 308 lever action in 450 Marlin. This feeds from a detachable mag. Is a 450 Marlin possible in a 7600? Thanks.
