Need non-Weaver mounts for Win M54

All I can find are the aluminum Weavers. I would prefer Leupold contoured bases or Talleys but they aren't listed for the 54.

Front hole spacing is .875 but rear appears to be .515. Also my 54 (1927) has a grooved rear bridge and stripper clip slot which may affect the rear mount height. Are there any HQ mounts available for this rifle or am I into making them?

Thanks for the help.

I think the Pre-64 Model 70 Talleys will fit, but call them to check. My 54 came with Talleys but I am not sure how much work went into installing them so I do not know if they were ground to fit.

Edited: I checked and I have an email from Talley from 2004 indicating tha the Model 70 bases should fit. I would still call to confirm.

I just mounted a one-piece Redfield on a Model 54. Mount was for pre-64 Model 70 and it fit just right. After I drilled and tapped the rear bridge I found a Millet Model 70 classic one-piece that lined up and fit as well, so I'm thinking just about any pre-64 Model 70 or Model 70 classic bases could work for you.

Thanks a million Charles and John--I'll order up a set for a pre-64 and try them.

Good luck with your rifle. I have found Talley pretty good about answering emails, so if you want to double check you can email them for the part number.

The Model 54 and the PW Model 70/s were not factory drilled on the rear bridge so you don't know if the hole spacing is standard or not. The Model 54 and PW 70 have a different contour on the rear bridge than the later post war models. A later base will fit but it won't fit down into the contour correctly of the rear bridge.

That said, find a base for a PW Model 70, serial number under 66,???. Buehler and Redfield made both two piece and one piece bases for them. Several are on eBay now. If you go with the one piece base verify the center to center distance of the holes on the base against your gun.

Redfield one piece base, part number 51111, fits
down into the contoured part of the rear of the
receiver. Good luck on the hole spacing.
