HS precision stock for M70 long action: how long a cart can stock accomodate?

Hello friends,

I have an HS precision stock for a POST 64 M70 long action - right hand. I bought it for my .270 WCF push feed. A few years after I bought the HS stock, I had Jim Kobe replace it with a nice piece of walnut for the rifle.

Now, the HS stock works great, and I'd like to drop another action/barrel into it.

I called HS this afternoon, and their rep told me that "any post-64 long action will drop in." Of course, I do believe him.

My question is: does a long action post 64 M70 accomodate 7mm STW or 8mm Rem Mag?

I'm pretty sure it will accept .300 WM, no?

Of course, I might end-up going with a .30-06 or regular 7mm Rem Mag.

So, still having my .270 as a "lightweight" gun, will this HS stock accept a STW or other long (magnum?) action?

Hope I'm describing this well enough for your mind's eye! Thanks!

friar

p.s. it's about 8 1/4" from the back of the recoil lug to the center of the rear action screw.

Can't speak to the PF never owned one. As to the CRF the answer is yes with just a little work. If you get a normal long action you would need to remove the spacer from the rear of the magazine. Get a longer follower and either swap out the boltstop and ejector or they can be shortened. If you buy a rifle already set up for the 8mm or stw then drop it in and fire away.

As usual just my $.02

Thanks Paul - that's my question.

It seems then, that anything .30-06 based up to 8mm Rem Mag length (.375 H & H too?) should drop into the stock.

I appreciate the advice! wave

tu2 Yep the late model M70 CRF long action handled everything from the 06 to H&H based case. I believe the ejection port on the H&H (stw) action was opened a touch longer. However it will function just fine without the extra length. I built a number of STW from 7mag by simply reaming and changing out the mag box, follower, ejector and bolt stop. If you can't find the parts the orginals can be changed.

So You can simply drop in any long barrel action and go or you can alter an 06 length magnums to H&H length.
