I just installed a set of these new Leupold mounts, they are the same as the QRW but do not use the thunb levers for detaching the scope. After getting the scope mounted I noticed the lugs on the underside of the rings are causing the rings and bases to not be in contact with each other! There is about 1/32" of gap between them. Is this normal or do I have a set of rings with an improperly dimensioned lug?

John, if I understand your description correctly, that gap is normal... ie., QRW's (and Weaver's) never make contact between the bottom of the rings and the top of the bases... they just contact on the sides (the v-groove) and the cross-bolt). Did I understand your description? Brad

Brad- Yes, I think you have it right. There is contact on the sides and on the bottom of the cross slot. Just a bit odd to be seeing daylight between the rings and bases!

Good. Sounds like I understood. Regardless of the gap, those are rock-solid! Brad

Don... they certainly are rock-solid if you can get the ring screws threaded staright. Because the top ring is below-center, they tend to push-outward making it difficult, at times, to get the screws threaded straight. These mounts are the only I've ever had a problem with cross-threading screws. It did happen on several sets. They DO mar scopes... only one set I had didn't do that. Still, if you can navigate all the above, don't mind their excessive weight or marred scope-tubes, they do work! I'll stick with plain-jane Weaver's. Best to you Don... BTW, enjoyed your story about free ammo and rifles on antoher thread... things have changed! Brad
