Guys, I'd like to ask a practical question. Unfortunately, my practical build rifles have a real funding limitation that forces the use of cheap synthetic stocks. Am using the Fajen's synthetic on Mausers. At $40 it's hard to find anything else as sturdy. The first went on a Santa Barbara Mauser in .458 AR. Had to add considerable weight to it. Painted the stock with gray, black, and white Fleckstone. After it finally dried and was clear coated the finish is acceptable. In doing the 9,3x62 VZ.24 weight is an issue. Used a heavier taper than I probably should have so it got a little heavy. After bedding it weighs 9 pounds loaded with a 1.8-5.5x38 Zeiss Conquest mounted with Leupold QRW rings. As I really don't want to add any weight with paint, what is the best way to sand out the mould lines on this kind of cheap synthetic stock? How can one sand it without getting a gray rather than black surface? Thanks, Mike -------------- DRSS, Womper's Club, NRA Life Member/Charter Member NRA Golden Eagles ... Almost all my stocks are painted, wood and Tupper Ware. Mike, if you can notice a difference in weight because of paint you are a better man than I.Be glad to help you if you PM me. roger Old age is a high price to pay for maturity!!!
