FjoldWhat's a Winchester P17 worth?
I know that people like the P17 actions for building rifles on. I know a guy that wants to sell a sporterized Winchester made P17 rifle that has been sporterized with the stock cut, rear sight base milled off, barrel cut and front sight removed and it was D&T'ed for scope mounting.
Is the action worth anything?

Dago RedI'm gonna throw in here, with little experience, I have a 1917 remington and had two 1917 winchesters, one a project I sold (and the reason I'm telling you this) and the other I sold after dealing with the first winchester.
It depends what your goal is for it. The 1917 Remingtons were the best, and don't have the unsightly duckpond on the bridge. It can be filled, covered etc, but how that is done is important and how well it turns out is of course important. On my Winchester they had filled it and the heat used to attach the insert had tightened up that area enough that the bolt was snug going through. I guess easy fix and you could just lap it out. then you blue it though and what if the filler piece shows?
If you just want one then I love enfields and say go for it. if you plan to invest $$ in it I think you're better off waiting for the Remington version.

Also, how well the ears were removed,if contouring was done to the bridge, can matter too.
Just 2c, maybe less.

FjoldThanks Red, I was looking at it for a gift so if the Remington is a better choice then I'll wait until I find one.
