Hi all - I have just bought a new Mod 70 festherweight - the safety is VERY loud going from the middle to fire position - in fact to loud for hunting. Is this normal and if it is how can I quiet it down a bit?

I always hold mine when I am taking it off safety and gently ease it down. It doesn't make any noise whatsoever.

Yes that works but its not ideal as you have to take your hand off the rifle to do so - i guess Im just used to flicking a safety off with my thumb. Otherwise very nice rifle.
