My hunting partner and I had custom .338 ultra mags built on Remington 700 actions. He had his gunsmith install a Shilen trigger, I installed a Jewel on mine. When he got a chance to shoot mine at the range, he swore my trigger was set to 1.5lbs, which "felt" lighter than his by at least a pound. When we checked them with a pull gage, his was set at 36ozs, mine is set at 40ozs. [Big Grin]
Shilen's are good, if you can afford it go with the Jewel.

Ins,

Are those two your only choices? Jewell, Canjar and Rifle Basix come to mind as well. What will the end use be? Any preference at this point would be task related or personal. For instance out of these choices for the Remington 700, and there are other fine triggers not mentioned, my preferences are, in ascending order, Rifle Basix, Jewell, Shilen/Canjar, my modified factory 700 triggers and Timney. As a general guideline, look for a trigger that is easy to maintain, one that maintains it's settings (not necessarily with a lock nut), who's pull weight is repeatable and employes a good, positive safety (for hunting weapons and those used in and around the general public).

Regards,

Malm

There is a less expensive solution that will give you a great trigger....pull yours out of the rifle and send it to Neil Jones. He charges $50 and can set it safely down as low as 1 pound and the safety will still work. I have several triggers he's done....quality work done quickly.

The only factor was the price rangethere both around 60-70$.What`s the price for basix and Jewell?
Bill i can adjust the pul waight on my trigers it`s just that there is something inherently wrong with this triger,(it acts like a 2 stage triger) instead of fidle with it i want to change it and there is no way in hell i am sending my rifle to Remington

I had problems with Rifle Basic, the sear was warped, likely in heat treating. It was bad enough that it jammed and the trigger wouldn't reset. The reset spring in the Rifle Basic is much lighter than the Remington, better trigger pull but at the cost of reliablity. The other design difference is the sear width in the housing leaves 10x the gap of the Remington. This could lead to crap jamming it.When I phoned,sh** happens,I got a tough luck from them.A day of stoning the sear and I made it work.I am still leary, when I hunt where I might be hunted ,I use the Winchester, poorer glass, poorer stock design, the XLT,odd place for a safety but a good reliable trigger.

Ins......Neil is a magician with Remington triggers and it isn't just a matter of "adjusting" it, Neil "tunes" them. When he's finished you have a "custom" trigger.

I also like the Basix trigger but at $100+ they are getting a bit expensive. The Jewell is great trigger ($200+) but I don't like the thin trigger.
