You need a different cylinder, because the headspace (rim thickness) of a 45 ACP in clips, or the .45 Auto-Rim, is so much greater than that of the .45 Colt round. The .45 Colt cylinder can be converted to take the .45 ACP in clips or the .45 Auto-Rim case, (just like the .455 Webley can be converted to .45 ACP), but then you could no longer use .45 Colt cases!! I had several modified to use both. On the rear of the of .45LC cylinder, mill off the thickness of the moon clip. However, leave a rim on the outer edge of cylinder. The LC cartrides will headspace on this rim, while the ACP cartridges will headspace with the moon clip. You will only be able to use full moon clips, as half moon clips wrap around the the outside of the cartridges and will interfere with the rim on the cylinder. Be sure the extractor is thick enough to start with. It will have to be milled along with the cylinder. I've had this conversion done on Anaconda's, Redhawks and Smith's.

Wild West Guns does a moon clip conversion on Ruger Super Redhawks in 454 cassul and you can shoot all the 45's in it. Call them and check it out! www.wildwestguns.com
