Has anyone ever used one of the Charles Daly barreled Mauser actions? I was kinda eyeing one of the stainless 375 H&H's for a project

Way back when I was in the military we called it being a "two digit midget". Thank you for your service, and I hope that you will continue to be safe until you leave that God Awful place.

IM garrett. He has one that has been worked on for a 400 Whelen project IIRC. It looks like a nice action.

Last year I had built a .35 Whelen based on the CD action. I had a M70 type safety added. It took quite a bit of smoothing work to get everything right, but it is now just fine.

I have a LH version barrled to 35 Whelen & a 3 position Gentry safety added with a gunsmith here in PA named GAry Stiles. He will be doing metal work & stocking it for me. I look forward to getting it back. Big Grin He is changing the magazine release so that it is back in the trigger guard, changing the bolt handle, adding sights & making sure the action is true & slick. No feeding problems.

The Zasatav action (imported by Daly) is a nice economical way to get a nice hunter. GAry inspected it & said he liked what he saw. And that it was far cheaper to modify that action to a hunting rifle that to do a military mauser. Besides......shooting left handed gave me little choice LOL.

i bought my son a daly .270 in 2002, its a tack driver. metal is a little rough, with the worst being the follower. it scratches the brass a little, but for $300, what would you expect. it has aprox. 400 rounds through it and still shoots very accurate. 3/4 to 1 inch groups.

for the price, I like them. can build a nice sporter/semi-custom (read, not a 5k gun) from them.

that you can get them with correct mag geometry is a nice plus

Like Jeffe says for the money they are hard to beat. Looking at the web site there is no ETA listed for the stainless.

As usual just my $.02

Probably no stainless steel Charles Daly Mauser actions in the near future. The folks at Daly confirmed they're losing Zastava as a supplier. Remington signed a contract and will be importing Zastava Mauser actions.

I have two of the left-handed actions. I haven't done anything with them yet, though.

I have several CD actions; all have been well made.

With shipping, tax, etc., I pay about $238 for one.

I actually prefer the floorplate release that is on it, as it is easier for me to dump ammo out should I need to.

My only complaint is the engraved/EDM'd "Charles Daly" logo and "KBI" stamp on the left side of the reciever.

They are a great start for a custom rifle, or fine as is for an inexpensive shooter.

I'll agree that they are an expedient way to building a utility grade mauser inspired rifle.

But wherever did you get the impression that the magazine geometry is correct?

Getting one of these things has been an on again, off again thing. They were not authorized for importation a few years back; now I guess they are but it seems getting one is still a pain in the clinton. Shotgun News had a full-page ad in an issue many, many months ago stating that several different models would be available in mid- and late-2004. I took delivery of my MRC in 10/05, and so am not lookng at a Charles Daly any longer.
