I am getting close to needing to order a stock for a 96 Mauser, small ring, I am building and need some information, and since you guys are full of it (information that is) What type of butt plate would be a good choice for a 96 Mauser mannlicher I am using a floor plate release lever and a 21 inch barrel in 6.5X55. I was thinking either a neidner or narrow red style. Any thoughts??? Never rode a bull, but have shot some. NRA life member NRA LEO firearms instructor (retired) NRA Golden Eagles member

As far as steel buttplates go, I like the Winchester pre 64 type. I've used them on a few rifles. Niedners are also nice.

every gun I own has a rubber pad on the butt for traction and cushion when it's set down. That might not be the correct style for you...but it's what I do for reasons of safety and practicality. Other styles are pretty but..... /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery."
