Question re Rigby-style floor plate

I will also post this in "African Big Game Hunting", but folks here are most likely to have work with them.

I have read that the above style floor plate (possibly in conjunction with a magazine box) can increase magazine capacity by one round.

Is this true? How does it do this? By using a different spring, or by being hollowed out, or what?

Who makes them for a current production Model 70 (w/CRF) long magnum action, and how much do they cost?

TIA,
George

Sunny Hill - about $435.

Blackburn - about $350.

A lot of gunsmiths think Blackburn is better.

The deep box requires a new stock by the way.

Jim Wisner (Precise Metalsmithing Ent., Inc.) makes alot of bottom metal too and was offering drop boxes for pre '64 in the last catalog for under $400 with a note that the current production guards were being redesigned ('98). During our last conversation he was lengthening some (Mauser?) trigger guard assy's to accomodate the RUM cartridges.

Sunny Hill is at www.sunny-hill.com
Any website for Blackburn?

Hope this helps - Jeff P

Thanks, gentlemen. It appears that I'd need a new stock too in order to gain the extra round capacity.

This will all have to wait until after my buffalo hunt.

As far as I know most makers only offer these for 98 type actions. Try www.newenglandcustomgun.com since they import the Magnum actions by Reimer Johannsen. He offers drop floorplates as an option, There is no intelligent reason why a drop floor plate would not work just as well on a 3-shot mag as on a 4-shot.

David,
Sunny Hill definitely offers this style floorplate for the Winchester M70.
