What's your experience? I'm trying to decide between a 3-groove and/or 4-groove (or "standard" 6-groove) for a 30-06 and (possibly) 375 H&H.

Thanks.

You might want to read the articles written by Dan Lilja on www.riflebarrels.com/. He covers some aspects of 3 vs 4 grove. Something more to make your decisions harder.

I'm in the same boat trying to decide what barrel maker, what grove, what caliber, what stock, what scope. 'Bout to the point of chucking it all and buying a blond, pileated, dark rooted, double breasted, orally proficient, bed thrasher.

I wouldn't worry to much about the 3-4-6 groove debate, they all work, none lasts any longer on an average or has any edge in accuracy over the other, at one time most 30cal barrels were 4 groove or in the case of some even 2 groove. I have used the 3 groove barrel and have not seen any profound differences.

Chris told me that his personal gun was .30-06 with a 3 groove 1-12" and that it worked just fine. He was shooting 165 gr. Sierra for deer and 180 gr (didn't mention brand) for elk.

Apparently the Army snipers are using the 3-groove... that alone is probably enough of an answer. Dan Lilja seems to think they work just fine and is adding more 3-groove barrels. Pac-Nor swears by them and all their employees use the 3-groove.

Thanks for the answers.

RIGHT ON. They're ALL high maintenance and too expensive. My bird got rid of me now I have LOTS of disposable income for BigBoyToys and birdwatching. She was so slow she let me do the paperwork. I kept my guns, 4 by's, ATV, motorcycles, all my loading gear, tools and welding equipment. Lost a wiped out 'Vette and a cheap mobile home. The boyfriend promptly wrecked the 'Vette, bailed and she gambled away the house. Ha Ha Ha. Shit happens. Now I just jump over the hill to Mables or the Chicken Ranch anytime I need a rental and a back rub. Lots of lease items available in my neck of the woods.

Keep it real.

Another worth while quote is "If it has tits or tires on it,it's bound to cost you more money then it's worth".
