Hi All,

I ordered a #4 Douglas contoured blank in .30 cal for a .300 Win Mag I want to put together. I ordered the #4 because I was told a #3 would not finish out to 26" which is what I want. However, after getting the blank, I think it will end up being too heavy.

I called Douglas but after a few minutes on the phone I was still unable to figure out if the #3 was supplied in a 27.5" blank like the #4 is or not. I know the measurement specs they provide are based on the assumption that the finished length is 24" but can you finish a #3 at 26" if you'd prefer?

Thanks!

Buy a threaded chambered finished barrel from Douglas, and tell them what dia you want at the muzzel at what length, and I'll bet they can do it for you.

Terry,

Thanks for your input. But I'll be doing this myself. I finally broke down and did the sensible thing, called brownells. The tech measured the #3 blank and it is only 25.5" so it wouldn't work. I'll have to work with what I have. Between, cutting to size, chambering & threading alone I may get to a more agreeable weight. If not I suppose I can recontour.
