Dont heat it is the best choice! If grinding, a color change(blue) indicates too much heat.
What are you trying to do? 300 deg. in mommas oven to cure epoxy paint wont hurt
a thing

I am tryinging out an idea that I have for finishing guns. It would indeed involve the use of my kitchen oven. I am looking at at least 210*C or lightly higher.

Pyrotek

The lightly yellowish -brown coloration comes around 225-250C.
How much you can heat the actual gunpart depends on what is is. Is it a casehardend piece then it have a annealing temperatur around 200 and that should not be hotter cause that will lower the actual hardness.

Is it normal carbon steel or toolsteel or whatever then its no problem with 210 C.

As long as you are lower than the annealing temperatur you can heat as much as you like.

You would have no problem at 210 C. That is usually the minimum temperature for tempering steel.
