The Herters Rifle I found at the local gun shop was listed as a G9. It says "made in England" so I assume it is actually a U9 made by BSA.
My questions is that I have a M98 barrel that needs a home. I assume it will not fit this rifle. Is that correct?
The action on this looks great, the stock will have to be replaced (uglist stock I have ever seen", and with a 3 x 9 burris scope, it will cost $400.

Dear OldFart,
If the action is a "U9" and says "made in England" the Mauser barrel will NOT fit right on. The threads on a standard 98 or the other derivatives is a 1.100 and 12 TPI. The U9 is a 1.115 so it can be turned down and chased to fit as the threads are the same[12 TPI] but the back of the barrel at the chamber is also counterbored like a Rem 700. Nice actions. Good luck with your project.

Aloha, Mark

Bohica,
Thanks for your input. It looks like the rifle will stay at the gunshop, and my barrel will likely go on ebay.
Shucks, that might have been fun.
