Please provide gun i.d., guesses included. The pix comes from Mama Ediger's book, "Worth It All" p. 55 self-published in 2001 printed by Mennonite Press, Inc., Newton, KS.

Re-posted partially from African Hunting forum.
Might it be a Model 25 (Remington)? "Colteer" (Colt's) or Browning pump action rifle of some sort? Hate to think he used a .22 for big game, but that is entirely possible.

Thanx!

It's a Remington, the side takedown knob can be seen. It's also not a 22, the tapered front of the fore end suggests a centerfire, 35 Remington maybe. Probably a model 14 or 25.

That's a Remington Model 121 Field Master . I have one. It is a 22 rim fire. Look at the diameter of the magazine tube & compare it's size to that little boys hand.

Try to look unimportant. Your enemy might be low on ammo.

I agree, it's a remington .22 pump. Either a 121 or a 12C. Forend looks more like a 121.

Perfectly adequate for deer size game, given the opportunity to shoot it within accurate aiming range.

Kool, now we can categorically state that the .223 is overkill, and only a .22 lr is required!

Why not shorts? After all, it's all about shot placement, right?

I agree it is a Remington 121 Fieldmaster.
I had one once upon a time, it was my first 22 LR Rifle.

22rf Not the caliber of choice for sport hunting.

But plenty of venison and other big game have put on the table with it.

Meat hunting and sport hunting are two different things.

Sport hunting and using the meat is very common and is regulated by many laws.
