K98 actions: S42-1937 vs. byf 1941 for 9.3x62 project. Which would be better for a project rifle. I understand that they were both made at the oberndorf facility. Are there any differnces that I should be aware of? I know that there are better actions out there, but this is what I would like to build with. Thanks ahead of time.

From a production standpoint, I would say they are about the same. German manufacturing did not begin to suffer until 1942, after the failed Barbarossa campaign and the increase in Allied strategic bombing.

What you have to decide is which action has been abused the least since it left Oberndorf.

I do not know the action lengths of either of these but some actions are suited to feed the 'X 57 rounds and don't feed such rounds as .30-06 and I'd far rather start the project with an action that will at least feed the 30-06 roound as a start!!!

If either or both adequately feed the 30-06 "as-is" then either will suit you but if they don't, then a VZ-24 is a far better starting action for this project.

K98's are the exact same size as VZ24's. Components can be interchanged.

Either action should be fine for your project. Choose by overall condition.

The K98 and VZ-24 are the same receiver and both were built specifically to feed the same 8x57JS cartridge. Why, other than preserving the historical value of a Russian-capture Nazi rifle, would anyone overlook a K98 for a VZ-24? Every one of my Turkish, Czech, and German Mausers feed 30-06 the same...what's the hidden difference that most mere mortals aren't aware of???

I no longer read or respond to anything that TEX21 writes. There is no excuse for anyone telling anyone else they have poor manners unless they know the history of what they are writing about.

Tex21 and 22WRF: I thank you for any contributions you have to my post, but please "P.M." each other with your disagreements about each others conduct.

ColoradoMatt are those just actions or barreled actions? Have they been messed with in any way? I have a Argentine 1909 action (original white) but unfortunately doesn't have the original hinged floor plate that I might be interested in working a trade on that byf/1941 action if it is still original.

Piss off 22WRF. Tex21 is exactly right. Besides, you are without a doubt the biggest crybaby on this forum. Always crying about how someone did you wrong, or said your action wasn't worth as much as you thought it was. You never actually have anything to contribute to a topic, well except tears. CRYBABY
