| Common number used is 55 lbs/inch. In the field a practice to use is take the allen wrench on the short end, torque tightly, then use the long end, more leverage, and give approx. 1/8 turn and will work well. With pillared wood stock the torque above is ok or with synthetic stocks pillared, not pillared, bedded, etc. you may be a bit strong w/ 55 for some crushing of stock may occur. Normally or at least on Rem 700/40X you torque the front screw first and then the rear one and if you have the smaller middle screw, do not tighten, but merely make it snug. Others may use different no's/techniques, but this has worked for a lot of long range/Palma shooters over the years. |

| For guns that are in HS Precision stocks and those that I have added pillars, or already have pillars, I take them to 65 in/lbs. All others I go until they feel right. But I'm with dsiteman on the center screw, just snug.

| 35-45 for a Bansner Hi-tech stock, 33-36 for a Mcmillan with no pillars, well over double that for an HS precision with bedding block.
