Are those the only two you'll consider? What do you want to put it on?
Pachmayr Decelerator is also a good choice for heavy kickers. A grind-to-fit Limbsaver would be my first choice if we're talking heavy recoil. Looks - well, looks are in the eye of the beholder, so whatever YOU like best there.
Knowing the cartridge you want to tame and the stock you're going to use would help guide a recommendation.
F'rinstance - I've got a .300 Wby. Model 70 in a B&C stock. The Pachmayr (Decelerator, I believe) pad that came on it looks great and works great.
But when I got my first Encore in 7mm Mag, the factory pad kinda' beat me up. I never really liked the exposed "X's" on the side, either. So I put a Limbsaver pre-fit (not as nice-looking to me as a good grind-to-fit, but VERY functional) and now I can shoot it all day long. Even my .375 H&H Encore is pleasant to shoot with full-house (270 gr. @ 2800 fps) loads. That's an 8 lb. rifle, so it needs a good recoil pad.

Stock shape, and overall weight are also factors that can either accentuate or attenuate recoil.
What are you building?

Jon Larsson - Hunter - Shooter - Reloader - Mostly in that order...

jeffeossoWhat Jon said.
and a couple considerations
the limbsaver is a HEAVY pad, it will weigh about double what the decell will, due to materials
if you have a desire for a gun that weighs as little as possible, within the parameters of having a good pad, the decel is the right pad.
if you want one that is going to help with a HEAVY kicker, the limbsaver is the way to go.

Wayne24263I have an R3 (same as a Limbsaver I think) on a Remington CDL. It does work very well but the chemical compound or something is off in it. It has gotten kind of gummy and real sticky. I plan to replace it with a Decelerator. Subjective I know, but I think the Pachmayr looks better.

aktoklatKick-Eze is another excellent choice. I have used them for several firearms and have been extremely satisfied.
Focus on the leading edge!

PeglegJeffe- Didn't you say not to long ago that one of the types of recoil pads you have been installing hasn't held up to well? I'm considering a recoil pad change on a couple of my rifles but I'm rough on equipment and want something pretty tough. Thanks!
The only easy day is yesterday!

CustomstoxWayne, check with Limbsaver. I have heard they were replacing those pads that went gummy. It was some kind of flaw in early production.

jeffeossopegleg,
yep, that would be the kickeze pads.. they are called "rippeaze" pads!! for good reason

I hope so, The cloth bottom in my safe is ruined from this gummy mess!
I used to be a believer Limbsaver pads and still believe them to offer the best in recoil reduction BUT, they are not worth the ridiculous mess.
Every limbsaver I've purchased (4 or 5) has started getting gummy. I sticks to everything! Gun cases, leaves, dirt, clothes, gun safe

It will be pachmyer from now on...

Wildlife ArtistI will need to grind to fit the pad. I'm sorry that I did not mention more facts.
30-06
Classic style stock
The Pachmyer Decelerator D752 old english is what I was looking at hard.
The Limbsaver that you grind to fit is the other but I have heard that they are tricky to grind. They gum up.

grizz007I have done a couple of the Limbsaver grind to fit and they are not as bad as some make out. Some time back mgbogo think his handle is mentioned to me when I was considering a .416 Taylor was to put on the Pach FS990-might be a strong consideration if you got a real whiz bang recoiler-the .06 is not.

jeffeossoI've had some in service for 2+ years (limbsavers) without going gummy. I heard a bunch had and sims changed the formulation.
anyway, a 30-06, get a decel
