With some smithing, you can fit 4 standard belted mags into a mauser, how many of the slightly bigger dakotas can you fit in a mauser action? any info will be much appreciated.

It depends on which magazine box you use.

If you keep the military or comm 30-06 magazine then all you can get is 3 rounds.

By going to an aftermarket guard such as I machine, then the inside width at the rear is increased to 1.010". Then the rails are remachined to match, now you can hold 4 rounds in a standard depth magazine.

Good to hear this, Jim, as it is what I understood your "standard depth" box to be. It will not require a new stock for an FN Mauser converted from .30-06, and will hold 4 of the 404 Jeffery cartridges. Remember, I have one on order: Standard depth box for .404 Jeffery. Thanks.
