Stainless on blued?
Taking a poll on how what you think of a stainless barrel mated to a blued reciever? Tacky or no?

It looks fine IMO.

I don't mind the looks and it saves on having to put a finish on action/barrel. Bead blasting is cheap.

I put a SS barrel (264Win) on a blue Mauser action and had all metal covered with a black teflon coating. Now they make primer and paint that looks just as good and won't chip any more than the teflon. As others have said, it doesn't look too bad without make-up.

I wouldn't mind it, I'd probably get the action bead blasted and blued, bead blast the barrel and add a set of NECG iron sights finished to match the action.

This is the rifle in question so far. Rem 722 action currently .222 with new glass, Rem sps stock, Getting BDL bottom metal with hinged floor plate, Bolt will be jeweled and possibly bolt handle, Waiting on new talley rings (possibly silver to set it off), and shilen or Hart stainless barrel in .223. This is for my daughter.

I have a SS fluted barrel on my blued Model 70 LH. I like the look of it and will go with SS barrels when rebarreling the rest of my blued rifles.

Most of the rifles I've bulit have blued action and stainless barrels. I like two toned. A lot cheaper in the long run also.

I have a HART barrel on a blued 40X with a wood stock. Not only does it look great, it shoots FANTASTIC!

Thanks for the tip. Who did your work? Did you send your action to Hart?

Heres mine, I had it built in '98. IIRC At the time it was the 1st one Mark Bansner did like this, they tried to talk me out of it prior to the build. I'm glad I went ahead with it, as it tuns out, I believe it was the cover rifle on their brochure for a bit.

iceman, its a Bansner "Hi-tech". He built it for me in '98. Its a "Sheep Hunter" in 300 Win Mag

Your rifles look great guys!

I must admit though when I see a barrel and action that are 2 different finishes it looks "unfinished" to me like it is waiting for the next step in the build process.
I am not saying it looks bad but just saying what comes to mind when I see one.
You could have a finish applied to the stainless to nearly match the reciever or you could send the reciever out when the barrel is off and get it "coated" with any number of finishes or send both barrel and reciever out for the same.
Or just shoot it the way it is obviously lots of folks like that "look".

Yup, that how I like them. It might be kinda hard to tell in the pics, but my bbl. is Grey. When being built, I told them I wanted it blasted with something so that there was absolutely no shine to it...they succeeded.

One thing I personally have against finishing SS, is that the finishes don't age very gracefully. Inevitably, over time, all SS finishes I have seen ding or flake off, or what not. Then I'd almost rather have just it bead blasted...
