Friends- I purchased a P-14 receiver from one of my fellow posters here. Question is, what is the best way to fill in the "Duckpond"? Do you tig weld it up and surface grind and re-contour the rear bridge? Or- Might one mill out that area, square it up so to speak and put at custom scope base in there? I would appreciate your comments, thanks in advance. May the wind be in your face and the sun at your back. P. Mark Stark

Last one I did I cut a piece of cold rolled and put in the birdbath as they were called then and gas welded in (before tig), then recontoured by hand and grinder (didn't have a mill). Worked fine and was cheap. Actually pretty quick to do. SCI Life Member NRA Patron Life Member DRSS

Yes indeed, make a slightly oversized (height) plug and TIG it.

Friends- I want to thank Zimbabwe and malm for their responses; thank you both. Has anyone considered or, actually cut out a dove-tailed section in the rear receiver ring and fit a really nice custom scope base in the area of the "duck-pond" or "bird-bath?"\ That seems like that would be very do-able as well. Any comments? May the wind be in your face and the sun at your back. P. Mark Stark
