replacement bottom metal for Husqvarna?

I recently purchased a nice Husqvarna-based custom rifle on this site. The bottom metal is such that when you push the protruding button (really hard), the floorplate slides off completely. No hinge. Is there a traditional hinged floorplate that I could use on this rifle? Ideally the floorplate release would be an inside-the-triggerbow "Oberndorf" style. thanks

Any of the custom, ie, Weibe, Sunnyhill or Blackburn units for the Mauser 98 will fit that as it is a FN action, or, perhaps one of the earlier Oberndorf actions purchased by Husqvarna.

Is it a M98 or M96 action? You might contact Duane Wiebe at:

There are several others that may have what you want also.

The hole spacing on Weibe's "Mexican Mauser" bottom metal is the same as the small ring Husqvarna actions like the Model 46 and 146 which use military patterned bottoms.

The Weibe bottom is sized to work with 7 x 57 and is slightly wider in the rear and narrower in front but can be inletted without a lot of issue.

I'm not familiar with a protruding button on the floorplate of these actions unless it is an after-market one from those that are found on some FN commercial 98 actions that Husqvarna used.

I do not know how the magazine of the Wiebe mexican bottom metal will line up with your Husqvarna. If you let me know if it is a 98, or a 96, and what action length, I can compare it to an action I have on hand and confirm if it will work.

Neither bottom metal unit will work if you have an HVA 1600 based rifle.

I wouldn't bother trying to replace the unit.

This sounds to me like a plain old military guard. If the guard screw spacing is something like 7.85 it's a standard 98 configuration

I own both and it does work on the '96 based actions with very minor alterations to the stock and top of the box. I put one on my Mod 146 in 6.5 x 55 to spruce it up a little. It seems a bit narrow in the front for best feeding with the 9.3 x 57 but that is just a guess. The box walls are thick enough that quite a bit of additional width could be had by milling the inside some.

Hi Mike.

Actually, standard M98 bottom metal can easily be made to work with a 1640 series Husqvarna actions. I know because I have two actions so fitted, one with the Fisher pattern rounded bottom metal and one with a 1909 Argentine unit.

loud-n-boomer,

Can be made is not the same as fits. Obviously not an issue for me but many expect drop-in parts. Just wanted to clarify that. Not an issue if you are making a stock but fit is a concern if using the factory stock.
