Dempsey, I learnt a lot about wood, and the effect figure has on its stability when I built guitars. In general, the straighter the grain, the more stable (assuming it's been cut right)! I'm a bit of a wood fanatic myself, however if it was my blank, I'd keep it - nice figure in the buttstock, nice and straight right where you want it!!

I'm going to go with it. The color is deceiving in the pic. I imagine with all the blanks Dressels photographs for the site they don't look for award winning photography. The color is even on both sides and more tan than the pic shows. I'm sure this a from the flash as I get similiar results with my limited skills and cheap digital camera. Anyway, I liked it the minute I saw it and still do. This also gives me a good reason to buy another blank and start the process all over again when things are settled in. I can add it to the limited collection hanging now. My wife thinks I just buy them for decoration, maybe so and whats wrong with that I tell her Of course I must look the other way when she spends $1700 on a sewing machine Can anyone imagine such a thing?

I am glad to see you going for it. You have an extremely nice blank and I cant wait to see it as it comes to life. Please keep us posted with pics of the stock and rifle in its progress.

I like that blank. As mentioned one should see it in person or with better photo's. One could exchange it of course but someone will make a stock from it and it will be a beautiful one. If it's light on one side a little then a little stain will match it. For sure don't use it for firewood. Compared to the last blank that was discussed I like this one much better. Here is the other blank that some said was very good. Here is the one from the first page.
